Innovation is a primary source of competitive advantage for companies in almost all industries and environments, and drives efficiency, productivity, and differentiation to fill a higher variety of needs. Technology builds upon itself, enabling innovative approaches within its evolution. Technological innovations consist of new products and processes and significant technological changes of these products and processes. An innovation has been implemented if it has been introduced in the market (product innovation). These innovations include technological inventions such as wind turbines, photovoltaic cells, concentrated solar power, geothermal energy, ocean wave power and many other emerging innovations. Innovation can be intangible, as opposed to technology, which is tangible. One can even apply the innovation process to their everyday life. Technology can be used to implement innovation, but the technology itself doesn’t produce innovation.
